Market Highlights: Boston Scientific Seeks Quick Fix by Selling Neuro Units

Struggling under liabilities from the 2006 acquisition of Guidant and yet another costly recall last month, Boston Scientific is feeling the pressure to make a dramatic change. It was widely reported this month that they have hired Bank of America to help them get a quick cash fix by selling their neuromodulation and neurovascular units. Boston Scientific needs to refinance $2.4 billion in 2011 and many fear the company will breach its covenants if it does not do something to raise cash.

7TM Pharma Regroups After "Next Gen" Obesity Targets Come Under Fire

7TM Pharma was founded in 2000 as a spinout from the University of Copenhagen by Professor Thue Schwartz and Dr. Christian Elling. NeuroInsights spoke with Dr. Elling to get an update on recent changes at the company. “When the company got started Schwartz and I had worked together for some time.” Elling says. “We were joined by local folks from the biotech industry, including our former CEO, Mette Kirstine Agger. The company was focused on a technology for drugs that act on GPCR's, also known as 7-transmembrane domain receptors or 7TM receptors, hence our name."
