Market Highlights: Battered Markets Delay Life Science Exits

February marked a dismal month for companies aspiring to the reach the public market. At least six life science companies canceled or postponed their IPO including Archemix, Biolex, Athena Health, Light Sciences Oncology, Transoma, and neurodevice company Concentric Medical. One company, Mako Surgical, succeeded in its offering raising $51 million after a price reduction from $16 to $10. While late stage companies are feeling the heat, early stage companies who have struggled to get venture attention in recent years, are now back in favor according to a panel at the Dow Jones Venture Summit.  With exits in the short term limited, venture investors are taking a closer look at companies with longer horizons.
