New Hope for Treatment of Spinal Cord Injuries Spinal Cord Injuries (SCI) are injuries to the spinal cord, a bundle of nerve fibers and cells that runs from the base of the skull into the lower back in a canal made up by interlocking vertebrae known as the "backbone." The nerve tract is responsible for carrying motor control signals from the brain to muscles and sensory signals from the body to the brain. It also contains nerve cells that are responsible for muscle reflexes and the gating of some sensory signals such as pain. Injuries to the cord cause varying degrees of damage to cells and nerve bundles and in extreme cases sever the cord, effectively disconnecting the body below the injury from the brain...
BLSI: Restructuring Brings New Life to Boston Life Sciences
Boston Life Sciences Inc. (BLSI), a biotech company in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, went public three years after its inception in 1972 through a reverse merger arrangement. Its original focus was on inflammatory conditions and over the years the company added other projects in a wide variety of areas. Dispite all this the stock fell rather dramatically. In the late 1990's BLSI started focusing on molecular imaging and in 2004 it was reorganized with a new management team and a new board to focus primarily on neurological imaging and therapeutics...
