Jazz Pharmaceuticals, Orexigen, Pain Therapeutics and Targacept join NASDAQ NeuroInsights Neurotech Index

December 21, 2009 -- Targacept (TRGT), Orexigen (OREX), Pain Therapeutics (PTIE), and Jazz Pharmaceuticals (JAZZ) joined the NASDAQ NeuroInsights Neurotech Index (^NERV) in December after meeting minimum requirements including a $200 million market cap. Somanetics dropped out due to a low market cap and Sepracor and Noven left the index due to merger and acquisition activity.

The NASDAQ NeuroInsights Neurotech Index includes leading companies engaged in researching, developing, manufacturing and marketing pharmaceuticals, biologics, medical devices and diagnostics for the brain and nervous system. In addition to meeting minimum market criteria, the 23 companies included in the index must be identified by NeuroInsights as significantly involved in the neurotechnology industry, which includes treatments and diagnostics for disorders like Alzheimer’s, addiction, anxiety, depression, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, obesity, pain, Parkinson’s, schizophrenia, sensory disorders, sleep disorders, stroke, and traumatic brain injury.
